Alex Crook has told Give Me Sport that Newcastle have made an enquiry to sign Leeds United winger Jack Harrison – but the Yorkshire club’s asking price for the Englishman is considered “too hefty” for the Toon.

Harrison, 25, has been a mainstay of the Leeds side since the Whites gained promotion to the Premier League. He has had a hand in 25 goals during 71 Premier League outings in two season, missing just five games.

Indeed, two of those were forced upon him as he remained on loan from Manchester City in 2020-21. His form has not gone unnoticed, with reports claiming Newcastle have “a lot of love” for the Leeds wide man.

Now, TalkSPORT’s transfer guru Crook says Newcastle have made an enquiry to sign Harrison – but his asking price is too much. Earlier reports state that asking price is in the region of £30million.

“There’s some interest in Harrison. I know Newcastle have enquired, but at the moment, the price tag is too hefty,” Crook told Give Me Sport this week, regarding Newcastle’s interest in the ex-New York City ace.

Do Newcastle need a left-winger? Allan Saint-Maximin is first choice but the Frenchman might be able to switch to the right. Harrison is an old-fashioned type winger, most suited to the left flank.

Harrison is renowned for getting to the byline and delivering crosses but in the last campaign, he has been a goal threat too. In 35 Premier League outings, he netted eight times during 2021-22. Alan Shearer said he is “amazing”.

Under Jesse Marsch, he was playing as an inverted winger, allowed to come more central and get in the box as Junior Firpo overlapped him. Leeds will be desperate to keep him, with Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips likely to go.
