Newcastle United will sign Sven Botman this week and the Lille defender has taken to Instagram as he prepares for his medical.

Newcastle were chasing big centre back additions in January.

They ended up landing a defender as big as they come in Dan Burn, but only in height rather than reputation.

Diego Carlos was a target but the main name in the frame was Lille star Botman, only for a January deal to be impossible.

Newcastle have retained their interest in Botman and they are now close to finally landing their man.

It was pretty clear that Newcastle would be back in for Botman this summer.

Amanda Staveley confidently claimed that Botman was desperate to join Newcastle in January, which seemed to indicate that he would still be keen this summer.

It’s now claimed that Botman is flying to England today in order to undergo his medical and secure his £31million move to Newcastle.

This is a huge win for Newcastle and a massive coup.

Botman is one of the top young centre backs in Europe and has excelled with Lille since a 2020 move from Ajax.

For Newcastle to land a player of his quality and potential this early into their project is hugely encouraging, and his arrival is up there with that of Bruno Guimaraes.

If Newcastle fans had any lingering fears that a deal wouldn’t actually happen, Botman appears to have allayed those concerns.

Botman has taken to Instagram this afternoon to post a photo from his flight to England alongside just one word: ‘showtime’.

The Dutchman is seemingly very excited to be making his move to Newcastle and confirmation of his arrival shouldn’t be far away.

Botman will be a major outlay for Newcastle and a perfect signing after the arrivals of Matt Targett and Nick Pope, with this Instagram all but confirming his switch to the North East.
