Dharmesh Sheth has shared that Tottenham’s possible deal to sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough is ‘going on for a little while’, as he told Sky Sports News.

The Sky reporter added, as a result, Nottingham Forest are ‘keeping an eye’ on the situation, after the newly-promoted side were resigned to losing the player to Spurs.

Spence helped the Midlands giants earn promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, after he was loaned to the club from Boro.

The attack-minded full-back, who Ian Wright described as ‘swashbuckling’ on his podcast back in January, proved a lot of people wrong for what he did at the City Ground last term.

Given that Forest are newly-promoted and Spurs are in the Champions League, then many would point towards Spence heading in the obvious direction and that’s where he seemingly wants to go.

But Sky reporter Sheth dropped a potential worry about the deal and how it’s just dragging on, as pre-season nears.

“Djed Spence was the interesting one,” said Sheth. “He was, of course, on-loan at Forest last season and he returned to Middlesbrough.

“We think there is a deal that is in process with Tottenham. But, I am also told with the Spence situation that Forest are keeping an eye on that because the deal with Tottenham is going on for a little while.

“Forest think ‘if that doesn’t work out, is there an opportunity for them to maybe to bring Spence back to the City Ground?’

“But the other two they are definitely interested in, Neco Williams and Morgan Gibbs-White. And they are just keeping an eye on Spence’s situation as well.”

TOTTENHAM WINDOW GOING WELL SO FAR

In terms of deals that would have complications, the one that would have been a problem is signing Yves Bissouma from Brighton because he was purchased for a transfer fee of £25 million.

The other two – Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic – have joined as free transfers, so it was a lot easier to get those deals, signed, sealed and delivered.

Nonetheless, with the north London club returning to the Champions League, it’s even more paramount that the squad is bulked up in the right way.

And so far, things are going well, but it’s pretty clear that, added with Spence, more faces are needed, especially creativity in the midfield and depth behind Harry Kane.
