Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay has been sharing what he knows about Marc Roca after he signed for Leeds United.

The Spanish midfielder has had a tough time of it at Bayern Munich over the past couple of years. The former Espanyol man has spent plenty of time on the bench, and now, he’s been moved on by the German giants.

However, Roca leaves Bayern with a good reputation. The Bavarian club reportedly gave the 25-year-old a glowing review on his way out of the Allianz Arena, and apparently, Roca believes he has improved since being in Germany.

According to Hay, people around Roca have noted just how much his nutrition and physicality has improved in Munich, stating that the Spaniard’s muscle mass has increased during his two years at Bayern.

What’s been said?

Hay spoke about Roca and his improvement in recent years.

“It has been a quiet couple of years for Roca, but what I found quite interesting about him and Bayern’s attitude towards him was that even when he left they didn’t feel he was a bad investment, he was just caught behind better midfielders or more established midfielders. They didn’t think he was a bad purchase or damaged goods.

“He seems to think that he’s coming out of Bayern a better player than he was at Espanyol. If you speak to people around him people think his nutrition has improved, his body mass has changed, his muscle mass has increased, they think he’s benefitted from playing with better players and working with Hansi Flick and Julian Nagelsmann.”

Bayern guarantee

There’s almost a guarantee of quality and professionalism when you buy a player from a club like Bayern Munich, and it seems as though Roca certainly has that elite mindset needed to be a star at Leeds.

Yes, he couldn’t quite make the grade at Bayern Munich, but after two years of working under the best coaches in the world at some of the best facilities in the world and alongside some of the best footballers on the planet, Roca should be ready to go in the Premier League.

Leeds may have a gem on their hands here.
