Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay has been discussing Leeds United and their interest in Bayern Munich’s Marc Roca.

The Whites look set to sign Roca in the coming days. A fee has been agreed and a medical has been pencilled in for the Spanish midfielder.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Leeds have tried to sign a midfielder from Bayern, Mickael Cuisance was a high-profile target back in 2020, but a deal fell through after a medical had taken place.

As it happens, Leeds had a lucky escape with Cuisance whose career has since gone downhill after leaving Bayern, but it seems as though Roca won’t have the same fate.

Indeed, according to Hay, Bayern Munich have told Leeds that they’re getting a good player in Roca, with the Bavarian club stating that they’ve never had an issue with the former Espanyol man.

What’s been said?

Hay spoke about Roca.

“What Orta really likes about Roca was his time at Espanyol where he was extremely highly thought of and developing into a top player, which is why he went to Bayern Munich. What they know about him from Bayern Munich, what they have told them is that Bayern don’t have an issue with him really, they don’t see him as a player who has never fitted in, they don’t see him as a poor choice in signing him in the first place, they just have a strong squad that is tough to get into,” Hay said.

Seal of approval

If a club like Bayern Munich are giving you a glowing review like this, then you must be a good player.

As perennial Champions League contenders, Bayern set incredibly high standards for all of their players, and if they’ve never had an issue with Roca, he could shine at Leeds.

Getting into the Bayern team is an almost impossible task, and sadly, Roca has to leave Munich, but he may well get a new lease of life in West Yorkshire.
