Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur and their interest in Marc Guehi.

It’s no secret that Spurs want to bolster their defence this summer. They’ve been linked with a plethora of centre-halves and, apparently, Guehi is a player that they’re big fans of.

However, while Tottenham want to add another quality defender this summer, Thomas is led to believe that Guehi is a player that they are more likely to pursue next summer rather than this time around.

What’s been said?

Thomas spoke about Spurs’ interest in Guehi.

“There is another centre-back we’ve not mentioned and that’s Marc Guehi, but as we’ve touched on before he’s a potential star of the future. He’s had a season at Palace so he’s more established, but I think he’s more one for a few more years, whether Tottenham will push that now or maybe leave him where he is for the season and then do it further down the line is more possible,” Thomas said.

Dangerous strategy

Tottenham may well be playing a dangerous game if their plan is to wait until next summer to go to Guehi.

Not only would the England international improve the team if he was to join this summer, but if they wait until next year, his value could, once again, skyrocket.

Guehi has already established himself as a star in the Premier League – he’s even earned himself England caps, and at the age of 21, he could have yet another season of improvement this time around.

If Guehi, once again, kicks on he could be worth an astronomical fee by the time the 22/23 season is over, and it’s not ridiculous to suggest that he could be out of Spurs’ price range by next summer.

Perhaps Spurs should accelerate their interest in the Crystal Palace star.
