Rangers have been reportedly offered the chance to take Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks to Ibrox amid interest from a quintet of Premier League clubs – a player that Moussa Sissoko compared to Steven Gerrard in 2018.
Winks, 26, is expected to leave Tottenham this summer. Spurs have brought in Yves Bissouma from Brighton for a fee of £30million, while Rodrigo Bentancur joined in January. Oliver Skipp is set to be fit for pre-season.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg remains first choice, meaning England man Winks is now fifth choice. Reports this week claim Rangers have been offered the chance to sign Winks this summer, but face enormous competition.

Brighton, Palace, Everton, Leicester and Wolves are keen on Winks. But Rangers could now become keen after Spurs offered the midfielder to the Ibrox club – and a potential Champions League campaign might be appealing.
Speaking to Foot Mercato back in 2018, ex-Spurs Sissoko said of his then-teammate Winks that he reminded him of Gerrard. Of course, Gerrard managed Rangers for more than three years between 2018 and 2021.
“Winks is a very good player who reminds me of Steven Gerrard. Has the same profile. He is evolving, he is confident. He’s in the England team so that proves that he is a quality player. He will explode in the years to come.”

Of course, Winks is some way off Gerrard. It is almost impossible for any midfielder to become as good as Gerrard was as a player – and that is testament to the legend that is the current Aston Villa manager.
Winks has evolved as more of a defensive midfielder, one that dictates the tempo with ‘neat and tidy’ passing. He does not bomb on and score goals, he does not beat players. But his defensive instinct would improve Rangers.
