Foot Mercato claim Marseille have tabled a loan-to-buy offer to sign Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares this summer. Arsenal are yet to respond, but are ‘open’ to the idea of the Portuguese man going out on loan.
Tavares, 22, has endured a difficult first season at Arsenal since joining the club from Benfica. In and out of the side, he has been guilty of a few high-profile errors – including one against Crystal Palace in a 3-0 loss.
Kieran Tierney is expected to be fit for the new season and Tavares will be his back-up – even though Tierney is said to be a target for Manchester City. Atalanta are keen on Tavares too – Arsenal rate him at £34million.

Now, Foot Mercato report that Tavares is a target for Marseille. The two sides have done plenty of business in recent months – with William Saliba, Matteo Guendouzi and Sead Kolasinac all going to the Ligue 1 outfit.
Tavares could make it a fourth move – as Marseille table a loan-to-buy offer. Arsenal are ‘open’ to his loan exit this summer, and it would see him join a club that will be in next season’s Champions League.
Marseille have tabled offer for Arsenal defender Tavares
It would be a stunning move for Tavares, if he is considered first choice by Marseille manager Jorge Sampaoli. If he moves to the Ligue 1 side as back-up, then there is simply no point.
He is already boasting that position at Arsenal, offering cover for a player in Tierney that is somewhat injury prone. So, unless Marseille offer him a regular starting spot, he should stay at The Emirates.
