Fabian Ruiz to Newcastle United was doing the rounds heavily during the January transfer window.

In fact, Newcastle are reported to have failed with a £42 million offer for the Napoli midfielder during the winter.

However, if the Magpies are still interested then the Spain international could be available for substantially less.

That’s because Corriere Dello Sport reported on Wednesday that the Serie A outfit could offload the player for around £25.8 million.

Ruiz only has one year remaining on his existing contract in Naples and his price has evidently been slashed by quite a significant amount.

Problem is, the same publication reported that Arsenal were winning the race to sign the 26-year-old this summer.

That being said, Newcastle shouldn’t be overly disheartened by the prospect of the Gunners winning the race.

That’s because Eddie Howe is building a very exciting project at St James’s Park himself and it’s very plausible that Ruiz would be interested in a transfer to the North East.

As mentioned, January proved difficult for Newcastle with regards to Ruiz.

But if Howe and Saudi Public Investment Fund remain interested, well now would be the time to fire another bullet.

Who knows – this time it could hit the mark.
