Tottenham are chasing Djed Spence and Daniel Levy is now taking over negotiations for the Middlesbrough wing back as Fabio Paratici focuses elsewhere.
Tottenham have added three signings in key areas this summer; goalkeeper Fraser Forster, left wing back Ivan Perisic and midfielder Yves Bissouma.
Whilst Perisic can switch over to the right side if needed, Tottenham would ideally like to add a natural right wing back.
Emerson Royal just isn’t cut out for an attacking role and Antonio Conte understandably wants a more expansive option.
Tottenham are chasing Djed Spence
The main target for Tottenham in that position has been Middlesbrough talent Spence despite links to other wing backs.
Rumours earlier this month suggested that Tottenham were closing in on a £15million deal after Conte specifically asked for Spence to be signed.
Yet almost two weeks on there has been no movement and Spence remains a Middlesbrough player.
The expectation is that Spence will end up joining Tottenham soon but there is some work to be done.
Sky Sports now claim that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is actually taking over negotiations on the Spence deal.
It’s suggested that Levy will be leading talks for Spence whilst director of football Fabio Paratici works on other deals.
Levy will be hoping to get an agreement in place with Middlesbrough having so far failed to meet their asking price.
Tottenham are seemingly looking at just over £10million for Spence whereas Middlesbrough want £15million with add-ons.
That gap will need to be bridged if Tottenham are to sign Spence, who is ‘determined’ to sign for Spurs and join Conte this summer.
That’s at least encouraging for Tottenham but it’s now over to Levy to try and get an exciting deal done after Spence’s superb attacking performances for Nottingham Forest this past season.
