Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Raheem Sterling, but it seems that the Manchester City attacking midfielder could be heading to Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea instead.

Tottenham and Chelsea linked with Raheem Sterling

The Athletic have reported that Chelsea are growing in confidence that they will be able to sign former Liverpool winger Sterling from Premier League rivals Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Chelsea plan to make a second bid for the 27-year-old soon, having had an initial offer for the England international turned down.

Earlier this month, The Mirror reported that Tottenham are interested in Sterling, who is on £300,000-a-week at the Citizens (Spotrac).

Jamie O’Hara’s verdict

Former Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara believes that Sterling could be making a mistake joining Chelsea, pointing out that he is not going to get more playing time at the Blues than he gets at Premier League champions City.

The City no. 7 made 23 starts and seven substitute appearances for City last season.

Sterling scored 13 goals and gave five assists in those matches.

The former Liverpool player also made five starts and seven substitute appearances in the Champions League for City last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the process.

O’Hara said on about Sterling on talkSPORT (8:21am, June 20, 2022): “I don’t understand this one, unless he has had another falling-out with Guardiola.”

The pundit added: “Is he going to get more game time? I was thinking about it. The Chelsea squad, I mean, they have got a top front really, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Pulisic, Timo Werner.”

The former Tottenham player continued: “If he goes to Chelsea, it’s a backward step in terms of chances of winning trophies, but you are going to get the same game-time. Maybe it’s a fresh challenge that he wants.”
