Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told Give Me Sport that Tottenham will now table an offer of £20million to sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough – after completing international duty with England’s Under-21 side.
Spence, 21, was afforded only his third cap for England’s Under-21 side on Monday night as England played host to Slovenia. But it was a night to forget for Spence, as he conceded an early own goal after a minute.
Tottenham are closing in on a move to sign Spence, ahead of Nottingham Forest – where he starred on loan last season, helping Forest gain promotion to the Premier League. A permanent move was on the cards.

But now it seems Tottenham are set to win the race, and will table a £20million offer now that his international duty with England’s U21’s has come to an end. That is according to Express reporter Taylor.
“Once the final England U21’s game is out of the way tonight, Spurs will offer £20m,” Taylor said on Monday. “That was the information that I had received, that he was one of the names Tottenham were looking at.”
Tottenham will now table Spence offer, £20m a fair price?
Spurs do need a right wing-back and Spence is arguably one of the best talents in that position, in the country. Spence will have to put up with being second choice – with Matt Doherty arguably the club’s best option.
Emerson Royal lost his place in the side to Doherty during Conte’s first few months. But injury to the Ireland ace saw Emerson come back in. It will be interesting to see who is first choice when all three are fit.
Spence might have to play back-up but given his age, he has got time on his side. If he can make 25-30 appearances for Spurs during 2022-23, then it is a success. It will give him the foundation to go on and become first choice.
