
Tottenham are expected to sign Djed Spence but the Middlesbrough right back endured a nightmare Monday night for the England Under-21’s.
Spence will have been celebrating winning promotion with loan club Nottingham Forest in recent weeks having won the Championship playoff final.
Yet there is no rest for Spence as he has been on international duty with the England Under-21’s.
Spence has been splitting time as England’s right back with Max Aarons, meaning he started two of four games.
Spence started against Slovenia in Huddersfield on Monday night but the night proved to be a difficult one for him.
Inside the first minute of the game, Spence inadvertently headed a Slovenia free kick into his own net.
England went on to lose 2-1 in a shock defeat and it’s a night that Spence will probably want to forget very quickly.

Spence will now look to get away and not only put the defeat behind him but also recharge his batteries.
This could be a big summer for Spence given that he is expected to join Tottenham very soon.
The Guardian report that Tottenham have agreed a £20million deal to sign Spence from Middlesbrough this summer.

Tottenham need homegrown talents and are in the market for an attack-minded wing back to suit Antonio Conte’s style.
Spence ticks the boxes but Tottenham have been made to wait until the end of his international duty to push for the deal to be completed.
Spence will soon be away from the England scene and surely free to finalise his move to North London.
It’s hardly ideal to be leaving the England camp off the back of an own goal and Tottenham will hope that’s his last one for a while as they chase his signature.
