It‘s looking probable that Darwin Nunez is going to be a Liverpool player.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool have now struck an agreement with Nunez with regards to personal terms.
Potential Darwin Nunez wages Liverpool
Pedro Sepulveda, speaking to Sky Sports this afternoon, revealed that the 22-year-old Benfica hitman will be earning around £100,000 per week at Anfield.
And if that’s true, Sadio Mane will be upset – and rightly so.
That’s because Mane is reportedly set to leave Merseyside this summer after informing the club that he wants out.
According to Sport 1 in Germany, a ‘lack of financial appreciation‘ from Liverpool is a prime factor in the 30-year-old wanting to leave Anfield.
And if Nunez’s starting wage is on par with what Mane has been earning for most of his career under Jurgen Klopp, well that’ll only vindicate the Senegal international’s decision.
This is a player who has played a massive role in Liverpool winning the Champions League and Premier League in 2019 and 2020 respectively, a player with 120 goals since joining six years ago [Transfermarkt].
Mohamed Salah receives many of the plaudits, but Reds fans will tell you that they still wouldn’t have been as successful as they’ve been under Klopp without the former Southampton winger on the opposite flank to Salah.
Nunez scored 34 goals in all competitions this past season and impressed against Klopp’s side in the Champions League – particularly in the Anfield leg.
And the report that Fenway Sports Group don’t value Mane financially is much more of a credible and realistic theory if the South American attacker’s first pay packet in England is identical to the 30-year-old’s last.
