Momentum is gathering as Liverpool pursue Benfica striker Darwin Nunez with reports of an £85million bid now on the table – and journalist Nuno Dias has told CMTV that the Uruguayan has said he would “sign tomorrow”.

Liverpool fans will be well aware of Nunez’s incredible potential. The 22-year-old faced Liverpool twice in the Champions League knockout rounds this season, scoring in each leg against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

He got 34 goals in total last season, in just 41 matches. Interest in the Benfica man has been rife. But with Liverpool likely to now sell Sadio Mane, Nunez is their top priority to replace the Senegalese superstar.

Reports emerged earlier this week that Liverpool have made an £85million bid. Now, Portuguese journalist Dias confirms the initial £68million bid, plus £17million in add-ons. He says Nunez would sign a deal ‘tomorrow’.

“I have the information that Benfica already have the bid. The bid is already at Luz, it’s indeed of 80m plus 20m, and the player would’ve already said he’d sign it tomorrow (if given the chance),” Dias said.

Journalist: Nunez would sign for Liverpool tomorrow

Dias is not literally saying Nunez is signing for Liverpool today [his quotes were published on Wednesday]. But what he is saying, and highlighting, is Nunez’s utter desire and willingness to put pen to paper on a move to Anfield.

Nunez has been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs – including West Ham, who tried to sign him in January. But he has outgrown the Hammers already. When Liverpool come calling, you do not say no.

With Liverpool tabling an offer that is likely to be to Benfica’s liking in £85million, the Reds must now wait to strike a deal with Nunez. But according to Dias, that is not going to be a problem. Exciting times, for Liverpool fans.
