Arsenal want Gianluca Scamacca and new claims are now emerging suggesting that the Sassuolo striker rejected Newcastle United in January.

Arsenal simply have to sign a new striker this summer with Alexandre Lacazette heading back to Lyon.

Eddie Nketiah looks set to stay but Arsenal must still splash the cash on a new goalscorer for Mikel Arteta.

The likes of Darwin Nunez, Gabriel Jesus, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jonathan David have all been suggested for Arsenal.

Yet the hot name right now is that of Sassuolo striker Scamacca with Arsenal eyeing up a raid for the Italian target man.

Arsenal want Gianluca Scamacca

Alfredo Pedulla reported last week that Arsenal had made a £34million bid to sign Scamacca.

Scamacca allegedly wasn’t all that interested in joining Arsenal but Edu is still driving the Gunners’ interest.

Scamacca, 23, smashed 16 goals in 36 games for Sassuolo last season.

Now with five Italy caps to his name, Scamacca looks to be an ascending talent.

A huge presence at 6ft 5in tall, Scamacca would give Arsenal something completely different in attack.

Scamacca was born in Rome and had stints with both Lazio and Roma before taking the bold decision to join the PSV Eindhoven ranks.

Sassuolo pounced in 2017 and after four loan spells away from the club, Scamacca is now shining in Serie A.

Hailed as a striker with ‘incredible potential’ over in Italy, Scamacca is now in demand this summer.

Italian agent Roberto De Fanti has now told Caught Offside that Arsenal’s offer was actually around £25million rather than £34million.

De Fanti believes that Sassuolo actually want around £50million for Scamacca, meaning Arsenal need to double their bid.

De Fanti adds that Newcastle made a ‘really, really good’ offer for Scamacca in January but the striker said no because of the Magpies’ battle against relegation.

“Arsenal made a £25m (€30m) offer to Sassuolo for Scamacca in the last couple of days. The club’s general manager also said that it is very likely the striker will leave to play in the Premier League,” said De Fanti.

“Sassuolo has rejected Arsenal’s opening offer though. The fee needed, I believe, will be about £50m. Sassuolo has already pushed back offers from clubs in the Premier League – Arsenal, of course, and Newcastle United. The Magpies wanted him back in January – it was a really, really good offer, but the player, understandably, did not want to risk joining a club who were facing the possibility of being relegated,” he added.
