Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are now looking as serious competitors for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the race for Alvaro Morata.
It was only on May 26 that Sport reported that Arsenal were ‘close’ to striking a deal with Atletico Madrid over Morata.
Since then, reports have emerged in the Italian media that the former Chelsea striker is not enthusiastic about a move to Arsenal.
The 29-year-old striker, who spent the past two seasons on loan at Juventus from Atletico, did not have best of times in the Premier League when he was at Chelsea.
Now, that has not stopped Newcastle from making their move for the Spain international striker.

Newcastle make contact for Arsenal target Alvaro Morata
La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting today that Newcastle have made initial contact about signing Morata.
The report has mentioned interest from Arsenal and Barcelona as well in the £125,000-a-week (SalarySport) striker.
Now, Newcastle are unlikely to finish in the Premier League top six next season and do not have the quality of players that Atletico and Juventus do, so we do not think that Morata will fancy a move to St. James’ Park.
However, you just never know.
If Newcastle are happy to pay what Atletico want for Morata, then a transfer could happen.
