CalcioMercato claim Arsenal have withdrawn from the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen – but Newcastle are still firmly in the running. The Toon have been ‘wooing’ Osimhen for some time.
Osimhen, 23, has been on fire during the 2021-22 campaign – scoring 18 goals in 32 league and cup appearances. The Nigeria international has gone up a level, after just 10 goals in 30 during his first season.
His form has not gone unnoticed. Arsenal have been linked with the ex-Lille striker for some time as they look to bring in a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette – who was confirmed as leaving Arsenal this week.

The report claims that Napoli want between £85million and £95million for Osimhen. That has seen Arsenal withdraw from the race, but Newcastle are still looking at a deal for the striker.
CM say that a move to the Premier League is really tempting Osimhen and Newcastle have been ‘wooing’ him for some time. However, Bayern Munich also want him, to replace Robert Lewandowski.

But the issue is the price. Newcastle have a number of areas of Eddie Howe’s squad they would like to improve – goalkeeper, left-back, centre-back, midfielder, right winger and a striker.
But Financial Fairplay will hamper their spending spree. So, splashing the best part of £100million on a striker would hamper their ability to bring in quality players in other areas. Negotiation is needed with Napoli.
