Chris Sutton has urged Celtic in his Daily Record column to get a deal done for Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers sooner rather than later. He says the “noises all sound positive”.

Carter-Vickers, 24, has been excellent for Celtic during the 2021-22 campaign. The USA international clocked up 46 appearances for the Hoops, helping Ange Postecoglou’s side keep 22 clean sheets.

Of course, he now has a Scottish Premiership winner’s medal – meaning Champions League group stage qualification. SBI Soccer say Celtic have a £6million option to sign him, which could reach £10million with add-ons.

Newcastle are also said to be keen on the Tottenham man, who will see his deal end in 2023 at Spurs. Celtic icon Sutton has urged his old side to get a deal done before things start to get “twitchy”.

“The Carter-Vickers deal has to get nudged over the line. The noises all sound positive but the longer these things drag on the more people start to get twitchy. They start wondering, why hasn’t it been announced?”

Sutton urges Celtic to get deal done for Carter-Vickers: Why so long?

It is an intriguing one. As Sutton says, all signs are positive. Why would Carter-Vickers not join a side where he has finally made a breakthrough in his career – and with Champions League football next term?

Daniel Levy is a tricky customer to deal with. The Tottenham chairman is renowned for his stubbornness, but Celtic have a pre-arranged clause that Spurs cannot back out of. Is it other interest from Premier League clubs?

Along with Newcastle, reports claims Wolves, Burnley – now relegated – and Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester have been linked. Perhaps, Carter-Vickers wants Premier League football? Celtic remain nailed on.
