90Min claim Manchester City signing Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United would help the Whites raid New York City to land Argentine striker Taty Castellanos. Numerous Premier League clubs are said to want the forward.

The report claims that a move to Manchester City would ‘appeal to £60million-rated (Times) Phillips this summer. A player that Newcastle, West Ham and Aston Villa are all looking at signing in the coming months.

Manchester City are owned by the City Football Group – who also control MLS side New York City. 90Min report that allowing Phillips to move to The Etihad would smooth things over with Leeds keen on Castellanos.

The Argentina Under-23 international scored 23 goals during the 2021 MLS campaign, and in his 17 appearances in 2022, has 11 goals and five assists. Numerous Premier League clubs are interested.

A fee of £12.75million is the price tag on Castellanos’ head according to The Mirror. He has a contract at New York City until the summer of 2025, meaning New York are under no pressure to sell.

Manchester City signing Phillips would help Leeds land Castellanos

Leeds need a striker, no doubt about it. Patrick Bamford has spent almost the entirety of 2021-22 on the sidelines through injury. His season was summed up when he was fit to face Brentford, only to test positive.

Joe Gelhardt has come into the fold and impressed when given the chance, but Leeds need another no.9. They could do a lot worse than the ever-improving Castellanos. Leeds will not want to lose Phillips.

But if they do lose Phillips, there is a silver lining in that it would smooth over a deal for Castellanos. A potential bargain for Jesse Marsch, who has signed Brenden Aaronson and is closing in on Rasmus Kristensen.
