According to talkSPORT, Newcastle United want to sign Manchester City central defender Nathan Ake, a player Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk thinks is “underrated”.

TalkSPORT have reported that Newcastle manager Eddie Howe wants to bring Ake to St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window.

The Netherlands international, who can also operate as a left-back, has been told that he can leave Premier League champions Manchester City this summer.

Howe worked with Ake at Bournemouth and wanted to sign him in the January transfer window, and the Newcastle boss is still reportedly keen on him.

TalkSPORT have added that Newcastle see Ake ‘as a potential alternative to Lille star Sven Botman’.

Nathan Ake would be very good for Newcastle United

In our view, Manchester City central defender Nathan Ake would be a very good signing for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old is at the top of his game at the moment, knows the Premier League inside out, and knows Howe well.

So, Ake would be able to make an immediate impact at the Magpies, who will be aiming to push for a top-10 Premier League table next season.

Described as “underrated” by Liverpool and Netherlands international central defender Virgil van Dijk on Sky Sports in October 2021, Ake earns £100,000 per week (SalarySport), which Newcastle would be able to pay easily.
