Adam Hlozek is thrilled to complete a £15 million move to Bayer Leverkusen as Premier League giants Arsenal and West Ham United miss out on the Czech Republic international, speaking to the club’s official website.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out why Hlozek has opted for the Bay Arena.

Leon Bailey, Kai Havertz, Kevin Volland, Julian Brandt, Bernd Leno, Hakan Calhanoglu, Heung-Min Son, Emre Can, Andre Schurrle and Dani Carvalhal all made their names at Leverkusen before going onto, with all due respect to one of Germany’s most iconic football clubs, bigger and better things.

And it’s not hard to imagine Hlozek scoring a bucketload of goals over the next couple of seasons before moving on, with Leverkusen earning another substantial profit as their buy-low, sell-high policy comes up trumps yet again.

Bayer Leverkusen beat Arsenal and West Ham to Adam Hlozek

“Adam Hlozek is a player who plays as a number ten and he also poses a big goal threat coming in from the wing,” says Bayer director Simon Rolfes. “His versatility, power and, above all, his finishing will provide more options in our attacking game.”

TMW reported in May that West Ham were ready to pay an eight-figure fee for Hlozek, a long-term transfer target for the Londoners. The Hammers’ appeared to have an advantage over their rival suitors, too, following the arrival Czech investor Daniel Kretinsky.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are also big admirers of the 19-year-old forward.

Leverkusen, however, feels like a more than stable stepping stone for a player who is still taking the first small steps on his footballing journey.

“It’s great for me to have been signed by one of the best clubs in the Bundesliga,” says Hlozek. “I’ve regularly watched Bayer 04 Leverkusen over the past few weeks. The team plays wonderful football. Being part of this team fills me with great hope and expectations.”

Hlozek has already scored 40 senior goals before his 20th birthday. He was also was named the Czech Talent of the Year in 2019 after a terrific breakthrough season at Sparta Prague.
