Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal has garnered a lot of speculation in recent weeks.

With Alexandre Lacazette set to leave the Gunners on a Bosman, strikers are definitely the order of the day for the North Londoners this summer.

Even if Eddie Nketiah stays at Arsenal – and he is, at the moment, expected to sign a new contract – then Mikel Arteta and Edu will still need additional firepower up front.

And that brings us to the Manchester City hitman who has reportedly been told by Edu that he will be the club’s number nine if he moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Worryingly, there’s been a lot of talk about Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal without much concrete developments.

But according to Rodrigo Oliveira of Radio Gaucha, speaking to Calciomercato, that could be about to change.

The journalist claims that Arsenal are ‘very close’ to signing the 25-year-old marksman and that they’re ready to make a ‘great offer’ which could wind up being £51 million.

Oliveira added that the player himself is very keen to join Arteta’s side to boost his chances of making Brazil’s World Cup squad later this year, fuelling his desire to stay in the Premier League.

Considering he is out of contract at Eastlands, spending over £50 million seems a massive amount of money.

Remember, this is someone who Pep Guardiola doesn’t even want any longer, having signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund already.

A departure to Arsenal makes all sense for all parties and with that in mind, Arteta and Edu should absolutely try to negotiate a lower price.

With no Champions League revenue next season, despite spending more than any club in Europe last summer, things might be tight for the North Londoners and there’s no sense spending more than you need to.

If it materialises, this is poised to be their second signing of the transfer window after USA goalkeeper Matt Turner confirmed his imminent move to the Emirates Stadium.
