Arsenal target Fabian Ruiz has reportedly rejected Napoli’s latest contract proposal for the midfielder, with the Spaniard’s current deal set to expire this summer.
According to Il Mattino via GIFN, the Serie A side have failed in their newest attempt to commit Ruiz to a new contract, with the 25-year-old joining Kalidou Koulibaly in rejecting fresh terms with Napoli this summer.
Both players have their deals expiring in 2023, and despite Napoli qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, Ruiz and Koulibaly seem to be keen on leaving the Partenopei, with Arsenal reportedly interested in the Spaniard,
Newcastle United have also been linked with Ruiz, with the Toon even reportedly bidding £42m for the Spanish international in the January transfer window, an offer that was seemingly turned down by Napoli.
With Champions League-winners Real Madrid also believed to be keen on Ruiz, Arsenal face some strong competition for the midfielder despite his eagerness to leave Napoli this summer.
Hailed by Italian media as an ‘extraordinary talent’, Ruiz has been one of Napoli’s best performers over the years, and the midfielder rejecting a contract with the Serie A side is a huge boost for Arsenal given their summer plans this window.
Ruiz contract update must push Arsenal to make summer move
Central midfield is an important position for Arsenal to strengthen this summer, and Ruiz could be perfect to join the Gunners’ ranks and elevate Mikel Arteta’s options in that area of the pitch.
Silky on the ball and a mobile runner with an eye to progress the play forward, Ruiz has all the qualities needed to take Arsenal’s midfield to the next level, as well as act as a readymade replacement for Granit Xhaka, should the Swiss star depart north London in the coming 12 months.
