Last Sunday, Burnley were relegated from the Premier League, with Maxwel Cornet – a target for Tottenham, West Ham and Everton – in the side.
The Ivory Coast international did his best to save the Clarets with nine goals in 26 Premier League appearances.
However, Cornet’s efforts were in vain, and he is now said to have an active £17.5m release clause following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.
What’s the story?
Well, Tottenham, West Ham and Everton are all said to be interested in taking advantage of that release clause.
In truth, we’re surprised more clubs aren’t.
It isn’t easy to score nine Premier League goals for a side like Burnley, who do not create many chances.
However, Cornet – who Pep Guardiola admires – has now uploaded an Instagram message which suggests he would be happy to stay at Turf Moor.
Now, the use of the phrase “we” when Cornet states “we will rise again” suggests he is keen to help drag Burnley back into the Premier League.
However, in another way, it could be also be perceived as the bog-standard message players tend to post onto their social media accounts after something bad has happened.
Tottenham, West Ham & Everton must show Maxwel Cornet a plan

In our view, Antonio Conte, David Moyes and Frank Lampard must earmark a personal plan for Cornet, if they truly want to sign him.
It isn’t enough to say the Premier League trio should just trigger the release clause, as we expect numerous sides to do that.
Spurs, the Hammers and the Toffees can all certainly afford to.
Therefore, signing Cornet will require a personal touch.

Whoever wins the race will do so by showing the Ivorian where he will fit in the side, and how the manager will get the best out of him.
In our view, it will be a case of Cornet choosing between four or five clubs, so their respective proposals to the winger need to be enticing.
Keep an eye on this situation, as we expect Cornet to be on the move this summer.
