According to Goal, Arsenal have inquired about the possibility of bringing Levi Colwill to the Emirates this summer.
The centre-back has been shining out on loan at Huddersfield Town this season, and while he’s due to return to Chelsea in the coming weeks, Arsenal are hoping that they can tempt him to north London.
The Gunners have been building a fantastic core of young players over the past two years, and the addition of Colwill, 19, would certainly fit their transfer philosophy.
Colwill may have only played Championship football thus far in his career, but he’s been an absolute revelation for Huddersfield this season, helping the Terriers all the way to the playoff final.
His Huddersfield teammate Lewis O’Brien has stated that the centre-half has a ‘fantastic career ahead of him’, and that career may well unfold at Arsenal.
Of course, things aren’t going to be straightforward for Arsenal if they want to sign Colwill. Chelsea aren’t keen to let another young centre-back depart after seemingly making a huge mistake with Marc Guehi, and if Colwill is to leave, he’ll have plenty of suitors including Leicester and Everton – two teams that could probably guarantee him more gametime than Arsenal.
Factor in that Arsenal will also seemingly have to make room for a returning William Saliba at centre-half this season, and a move to the Emirates doesn’t actually look all that alluring for Colwill.
However, the Gunners are still a massive club, and if Mikel Arteta and Edu can sell the project to Colwill, the defender may well follow in Petr Cech, David Luiz and Willian’s footsteps and cross the Chelsea-Arsenal divide.
