Roy Keane has praised Leeds 2021 summer transfer target, Maxwel Cornet, for the impact he has made at Burnley this season.

Many were left surprised when Burnley managed to secure the £13 million signing of the 25-year-old from Lyon last summer (Sky Sports).

It could have been different for Cornet because Leeds were also trying to lure his talents to Elland Road.

You can see why there was such a clamour for the versatile forward because for a defensive-minded and relegation-threatened Burnley side, he has managed a very respectable seven goals from his 20 league games.

As things stand, Burnley are heading towards the Championship, whilst Jesse Marsch should now keep Leeds in the Premier League.

Someone like Cornet is way too good for England’s second-tier, so if Burnley go down, then it will be interesting if Leeds come knocking again.

Either way, the Ivory Coast star is a player that has impressed someone like Keane, who lauded what he has been producing in front of goal, as he told Sky Sports Premier League.

“He started the season really well with some real quality goals,” said Keane. “The variation of his goals.

“Brilliant strike-rate and technique. He is obviously a big plus to Burnley. He hit the ground running, with some brilliant strikes. Fantastic.

“He had a little bit of a dip, come back after the Africa Cup of Nations, but that can happen.”

Like Cornet did when Burnley beat Everton 3-2 last week, if they are to drag a club like Frank Lampard’s side down, then he needs to score the goals.

Very little time remains for Sean Dyche’s side to do the business and survive, with only eight games remaining for the Clarets.

They are sitting 18th in the Premier League table, four points behind 17th-placed Everton and nine behind Leeds, who have played two games extra.
