Give Me Sport journalist Dean Jones claims Florian Grillitsch is a target for Leeds United this summer, a player that fits the style Jesse Marsch is looking for. A free agent as things stand, Arsenal and Everton are also keen.
Grillitsch, 26, joined Hoffenheim five seasons ago in July 2017 and has since clocked up 151 appearances. The 33-time Austria international, though, is out of contract; a move to the Premier League is very much on the cards.
Reports claim that Leeds, Everton and Arsenal are all showing interest in Grillitsch – who can either play as a defender or a midfielder. A player that the Bundesliga website claim plays a lot like Bastian Schweinsteiger.
- Newcastle and Tottenham want Leeds star, but Elland Road is his best move
- Robin Koch an unsung hero at right-back in Leeds’ final games of 21/22
Now, transfer expert Dean Jones reports that Grillitsch fits the criteria of player Marsch wants at Elland Road. He says that even if Kalvin Phillips stays at Leeds, Grillitsch could be brought to Elland Road this summer.
“Grillitsch is a target. The Austrian has the versatility to play in defence or midfield. He fits the profile Marsch is looking for, mentality and style. Suggestions he will only arrive if Phillips leaves; that may not be the case.”
Journalist: Grillitsch fits Leeds style under Marsch, could join
The midfielder would be an excellent signing, not least because he hands cover in two crucial positions in the Leeds squad that need filling – but because of the interest in him. Arsenal would surely be the most tempting.
Europa League football, living in London, bigger wages. But would he start? Certainly not at centre-back and while Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey remain, probably not in midfield. He would start in a 4-2-3-1 under Marsch.
In defence, it gives Leeds another body. A move to work under Frank Lampard at Everton would also be a good move for him.
