According to Bild’s Christian Falk, Arsenal wanted to bring Serge Gnabry back to the Premier League this summer, and he was keen to join.
What’s the story?
Well, this will make Arsenal fans feel even worse about missing out on a place in the Champions League next season.
According to Falk, a deal was likely, with both the Gunners and Gnabry intent on making the move happen, although it is now “financially unrealistic” after Arsenal could only reach the Europa League.
You can see what the Bild journalist tweeted in full below.
Now, that will surely make Arsenal fans feel a bit sick.
If the Stuttgart-born forward now goes on to join Spurs, it will make things even worse – Tottenham are interested in his services.
Gnabry would’ve been a superb signing for Mikel Arteta, having risen to become one of the best forwards in Europe since Arséne Wenger sold him to Werder Bremen in 2016.
In 171 appearances for Bayern Munich, the 26-year-old has scored 64 goals, while also providing 40 assists.

In 45 games this season, Gnabry continued his fine run with 17 goals and ten assists to his name.
You can certainly see why Arsenal want him back at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal must do groundwork for 2023 Serge Gnabry deal
Despite missing out on him this time around, Arsenal should now start to lay the foundations for a 2023 move, in our view.
Next summer, if things remain the same, Gnabry will become a free agent with his contract at the Allianz Arena set to expire.

The Germany international has already expressed frustration with Bayern Munich in negotiations, so at the moment, a new contract seems unlikely to be signed.
Therefore, Arsenal should already be talking to Gnabry and his representatives about a return next summer, on a free transfer.
For now, however, it seems Arsenal won’t be re-signing the German.
