Even by his own modest standards, Alexandre Lacazette’s stats were relatively grim for Arsenal this past season.

The French striker scored only four Premier League goals across 30 appearances throughout the 2021-22 campaign – and two of those were from the penalty spot, underlining what a horrendous season it was.

Lacazette is out of contract at Arsenal next month and although Eddie Nketiah is in a similar boat, the latter looks set to be retained after blistering end-of-season form which resulted in the 31-year-old hitman – also club captain – riding the bench.

Ian Darke, a commentator for ESPN, has named the former Lyon hitman in his worst Premier League XI of the season as a result of his struggles, with Tottenham Hotspur-linked Romelu Lukaku also included.

Alexandre Lacazette’s stats won’t come as a massive surprise, for the striker has never been a rip-roaring sort for Arsenal.

Since joining in 2017, Lacazette has 54 goals and 25 assists from 158 Premier League appearances.

It isn’t a terrible return but, when you cost £53 million, it isn’t a remarkable one either.

After the victory over Everton this past weekend, Lacazette looked very much like he was saying farewell to the supporters at the Emirates Stadium.

And honestly, both parties going their separate ways this summer makes complete sense.
