Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to provide an update on Jurrien Timber, as Manchester United and Tottenham try to lure him to the Premier League.

What’s the story?

Well, the 20-year-old Ajax wonderkid has enjoyed a brilliant campaign in Amsterdam, and as a result, Erik ten Hag could bring him to Old Trafford.

Romano believe the Netherlands international has been discussed “internally” in the last 48 hours, as has Villarreal defender Pau Torres.

The Red Devils are allegedly preparing a £43m bid for the Spain international, who is also wanted by Tottenham.

Nevertheless, it is Timber who finds himself in the spotlight today.

Romano adds that the Ajax No.2 was mentioned “in the first meeting” between Manchester United and Ten Hag, so he’s clearly a standout target.

In 43 appearances this season, Timber scored three goals, while also providing two assists as Ajax won the Eredivisie title.

Interestingly, Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on signing the Dutch prospect, who looks set to have a very bright future.

Tottenham could lose out to Manchester United

In our view, Antonio Conte now faces a big challenge in trying to lure Timber to Hotspur Way.

The £35m-rated gem has a close relationship with Ten Hag, and has made more appearances under the 52-year-old than any other manager with 74 outings.

In those games, Timber has scored four goals, while also providing two assists.

Moving to the Premier League at the age of 20, you would naturally want to team up with a familiar face, which could work against Spurs in this transfer battle.

Given Manchester United’s issues at centre-back, Timber would probably be guaranteed a starting role as well, which could prove decisive.

Keep an eye on this saga, as Tottenham could soon lose out on this bright prodigy to Manchester United and Ten Hag.
