West Brom have confirmed that Tottenham and West Ham transfer target, Sam Johnstone, will leave when the England international’s contract expires in June.

The Championship side announced their retained and released list from the 2021/22 campaign and it confirmed that Johnstone will leave after four years at the club, as they posted on their website on Tuesday morning.

Johnstone is an England international, and in order for the 29-year-old to seriously fight for a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad later this year, then he needs to leave for a Premier League side.

Luckily for the former Manchester United keeper, there are suitors, with suggestions that West Ham are leading Spurs in the race for the soon-to-be free-transfer.

Given the player’s experience, no transfer fee attached to his signing and the fact that he has played in the Premier League before, it’s worth taking a punt on the player.

WEST HAM AND SPURS NEED TO FIND LONG-TERM GOALKEEPER

Both West Ham and Tottenham are in a similar situation with their keepers given that they are both towards the end of their careers.

Lukasz Fabianski turned 37 last month, whilst Hugo Lloris, who will be playing Champions League football next term, is 36 at the end of the year.

Both London clubs need to look for long-term replacements and think for the future, as getting that job done this summer would be very useful.

It also needs to be noted that the duo are in Europe, so there is that extra workload on the players.

Either way, Johnstone is heading for the exit door at the Hawthorns and he will be looking to sign on the dotted line for a new club pretty soon.
