Well, there’ll be no repeat of the Tottenham Hotspur lasagne-gate scandal on Sunday.
Gary Lineker terrified Spurs supporters on Friday by revealing – from a source inside the North Londoners – that there was an outbreak of food poisoning among the playing staff.
Tottenham need a point away to relegated Norwich City tomorrow to guarantee themselves Champions League football after Arsenal’s end-of-season capitulation.
Lilywhites boss Antoino Conte confirmed that Harry Kane had been absent from training in recent days, lending credence to Lineker’s revelation on Twitter even though the club itself denied what the Match of the Day host had said.
However, Tottenham have been given a massive boost.
According to Football London journalist Alasdair Gold, Kane did indeed train this afternoon ahead of Sunday’s visit to Carrow Road as the Premier League season draws to a close.
Gold revealed that he had some ‘good news’ for Spurs fans and then linked to a story he wrote about the 28-year-old hitman being present inside Conte’s latest session on the eve of the game.
What was lasagne-gate?
Arsenal fans remember the Tottenham Hotspur lasagne-gate incident fondly.
Those on the white half of the North London divide? Well, not so much.
A bout of food poisoning famously cost the Lilywhites Champions League qualifcation during the 2005-06 campaign.
On the last day of that season, Spurs, who were visiting Upton Park, only needed to match Arsenal’s result – at home to Wigan Athletic in the final game at Highbury – to be certain of a top-four finish.
Many Tottenham players suffered from nausea and vomitting after consuming the famous Italian dish as a pre-match meal.
Martin Jol’s troops ultimately lost 2-1 away to West Ham and with Arsenal beating the Latics, the Gunners pipped their North London rivals to Champions League qualification in famous fashion.
Fortunately for the Lilywhites, it’s unlikely that the same will happen tomorrow and with Kane seemingly available, well it won’t be for lasagne-gate 2.0 for Tottenham.
