Tottenham head into the final day of the Premier League season knowing a result against Norwich will secure them a place in next season’s Champions League. What could possibly go wrong from here?
Well, Spurs know all too well what can happen in this situation, just ask Martin Jol.
The Dutchman was in a very similar situation with Tottenham back in 2006, but one dodgy batch of lasagna wiped out his squad and Spurs were powerless to avoid defeat against West Ham on the final day, condemning the north London outfit to a fifth-place finish.
They say that lightning never strikes twice, but according to Gary Lineker, it’s happening again.
Usually, we would assume Lineker is only having a laugh here. After all, this is almost too farfetched to believe.
Spurs being affected by food poisoning days before a clash that could decide their top four fate was unlucky the first time around, but this is outright ridiculous.
Of course, we don’t know which players have been affected by this or the scale of the symptoms, but one thing is for sure, this doesn’t sound good.
16 years on from lasagna-gate, history has seemingly repeated itself and Tottenham will be desperate for a different result this time around.
We can only hope that the affected parties get well soon and Spurs go into the game against Norwich with a fit and well squad, because this wouldn’t be a fair way to end a fantastic top four race in a brilliant season.
