Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after it was announced that Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe would be staying at Paris Saint-Germain.

What’s the story?

Well, the £166m superstar seemed destined to join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, as his contract at the Parc des Princes expires next month.

However, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano, Mbappe has now told Florentino Perez – President of Real Madrid – that he will be staying with PSG.

It was Spanish news outlet Sport who claimed that Liverpool were interested in the 23-year-old, although both Champions League finalists now look set to miss out.

You can see what Lineker thought of the news below.

Clearly, the BBC Match of the Day host feels Mbappe is making the right decision, while he also made a reference to a bizarre rumour when stating that the striker will now “practically” run PSG.

The outlandish claim came from Edu Aguirre of El Chiringuito, who believes the World Cup winner will be allowed to choose transfer targets, as well as who his manager is.

If true, it would be a groundbreaking moment in terms of football transfers.

Liverpool must continue to succeed if they want Kylian Mbappe

For now, it seems Mbappe will not be available for at least a year or two.

However, Liverpool must continue to dominate under Jürgen Klopp if they want to have any chance of being the France international’s next destination.

It’s no surprise that Liverpool and Real Madrid – both of whom are Champions League finalists – were the leading candidates for his signature.

Now, the Reds must ensure they remain at the pinnacle of European football when Mbappe next becomes available, or else they will surely have no chance of signing him.

Klopp has already admitted that he would love to have the PSG No.7 at Anfield, and with the German now staying until 2026, anything is possible.
