Nicolas Pepe leaving Arsenal seems to be a very growing possibility this summer.
The former Lille winger has only managed five Premier League starts all season under Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, underlining his waning influence at the Emirates Stadium.
It was reported on Wednesday that the 26-year-old – who earns £140,000 per week in North London – had instructed his new agent to get him a transfer away from the Emirates Stadium.
And it would appear as if the feeling is mutual.
That’s because Chris Wheatley of Football London has reported that Pepe is looked upon as a ‘dispensable’ player by Arteta and that the club will be listening to offers for him during the summer.
Pepe leaving Arsenal makes complete sense
Sixteen goals and eight assists in 79 Premier League appearances is by no means a terrible return.
Then again, you need to remember the context.
We’re talking about Arsenal’s record signing, with Raul Sanllehi paying £72 million for him during the summer of 2019 during Unai Emery’s reign as Gunners’ manager.
With massive transfer fees come massive expectations and the truth is that barring glimmers of his undeniable talent, he has never consistently looked like a player worth anywhere near the amount that was shelled out for him, with Lee Dixon claiming that he can look ‘so good’ and then ‘so bad’.
Arsenal’s goal this summer will be to recoup as much money as possible, with Sevilla potentially looking like a destination.
Problem is, this isn’t a mega-wealthy club and the odds of Arteta and Edu getting good money for him seems relatively remote, given his transfer fee and wage demands.
