Lee Dixon has claimed that Arsenal are yet to see the best from Nicolas Pepe, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former right-back shared that things can go ‘so good’ for Arsenal’s club-record signing, then two minutes later, ‘so bad’.

Pepe started for Arsenal on Tuesday night, during their 2-0 League Cup win over Leeds, but he didn’t make the desired impact that he would have liked on the match.

A number of attacking players have thrived at Arsenal this season, including the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Emile Smith Rowe.

But not Pepe, who joined in 2019, but is yet to showcase that quality in the final third, as Dixon explained his own frustrations.

“He’s a livewire, that’s for sure,” said Dixon. “That end product can be so good from him, yet so bad two minutes later.

“It’s a consistency thing. Churning out performances, churning out games, one after the other.

“Once you get that, then you start to be first on the team sheet. Then you will see the best of Pepe, but we haven’t seen it yet.”

There have been improvements in Pepe’s game since Mikel Arteta took charge, especially last season.

On a number of occasions, the Ivory Coast star played on the left, in order to improve his attacking threat when cutting onto his right foot and making better use of his weaker side.

Added with that, he ended the season in a pretty strong fashion, but he hasn’t been able to match that heading into this campaign.

You just wonder, if it continues to go wrong for Pepe, then how patient will those in North London be? Because time is running out for him to stamp his authority on the team.
