90Min claim James Tarkowski has informed Burnley that he will leave Turf Moor at the end of the season, whether they stay in the Premier League or not. West Ham and Newcastle are both interested in signing Tarkowski.
The 29-year-old defender is out of contract this summer and is yet to sign a new deal. Now, it appears the two-time England international will depart on a free, even if Burnley beat Leeds and Everton in the race to avoid the drop.
Reports last week claimed that West Ham have cooled their interest in the former Brentford defender, as they believe Newcastle will land the £50k-a-week man. However, 90Min state that both clubs are still very interested.
Indeed, the report also names a third club showing interest, in the form of newly-promoted Fulham. It remains to be seen where the Manchester-born defender prefers ahead of the summer – but he is going to leave Burnley.
Newcastle and West Ham target Tarkowski to leave – a no-brainer
That is, for either club. Newcastle need cover at centre-back despite handing Fabian Schar a new deal. They also boast captain Jamaal Lascelles and Dan Burn. Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark are likely to go.
Meanwhile, West Ham will also want centre-back cover with another European campaign expected. Angelo Ogbonna remains, but is soon 34 and has been injured all season. Issa Diop’s form has been questionable.
