According to The Telegraph, Hugo Ekitike is expected to join Newcastle United this summer after a failed pursuit in January.
Ekitike was one of the Magpies’ top targets in the winter transfer window, but despite being knocked back a few months ago, it looks as though the Tyneside club’s interest hasn’t waned.
According to this report, Newcastle are expected to finalise a deal for Ekitike in the coming weeks, and this could be something of a coup for United.
Indeed, it wasn’t too long ago that Ekitike was being linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund as Erling Haaland heads off to Manchester City, but it now seems as though he’ll be headed to St James’ Park rather than Signal Iduna Park.
Ekitike looks set for a move to Newcastle, but he may not be the Magpies’ first-choice striker if he does arrive.
Indeed, in the very same report, the Telegraph claim that Newcastle will bid for Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, and if the Everton star arrives, it’s hard to imagine Ekitike being a regular starter.

However, at the age of just 19, the Frenchman is also one for the future, and a few years of deputising under Calvert-Lewin may be just what the doctor ordered.
Of course, these rumours will have both Chris Wood and Callum Wilson sweating over their Newcastle futures, and with United looking to spend big in the coming years, there may be a few more at the club who could soon be out the door.
