Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers want to bring Chelsea-owned midfielder Billy Gilmour to Ibrox in the summer transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.

TEAMtalk have reported that Ibrox club Rangers are ready to make a move for the youngster and bring him back to the club on loan for next season.

Rangers want Billy Gilmour on loan from Chelsea

Chelsea reportedly do not think that Gilmour is ready to play week in and week out for Thomas Tuchel’s first team.

The 20-year-old midfielder is on loan at Norwich City at the moment, having moved to the Canaries at the start of the season.

Gilmour has made 20 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Norwich this season, providing one assist in the process.

Norwich have been relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

Gilmour was on the books of Rangers from 2009 until 2017 before he moved to Chelsea.

Highly rated

Chelsea-owned midfielder Gilmour is highly rated and, in our opinion, he would be a good signing for Rangers in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane was once impressed by the youngster and could not believe what he was seeing from the midfielder.

Keane was so impressed by Gilmour’s performance against Liverpool in March 2020 that he got out of his seat.

Keane told Sky Sports: “From his performance the other night, he was fantastic. As the game started I literally got out of my seat, which I very rarely do, and I thought, ‘Who is this kid?’

“There are certain traits you want from a midfielder, quality on the ball, football intelligence, composure. He had everything, it was one of the best performances I have seen in a long, long time.”
