Celtic are ramping up their interest in Hammarby defender Mohanad Jeahze having sent a scout to Sweden to watch him in action.
That’s according to The Scottish Sun, who claim that Celtic are now showing more and more interest in signing Jeahze.
It’s claimed that a Celtic scout flew out to Sweden to watch Jeahze in action against Malmo on Monday night.
The problem for Celtic is that Jeahze was hooked a little earlier than planned.
Hammarby substituted Jeahze with 22 minutes to play as he was at risk of picking up a second yellow card.
Jeahze claims he was close to getting a red card so he was taken off, meaning Celtic weren’t quite able to see him play a full 90 minutes.
Still, Jeahze played his part in a 0-0 draw as Hammarby kept a clean sheet against third-placed Malmo.
Hammarby sit top of the Allsvenskan table and have conceded just two goals in 13 games with Jeahze a key part of that success.
Whether Jeahze is able to stick around for the rest of the Swedish season remains to be seen though.
The Scottish Sun reported last week that Celtic are looking to sign Jeahze in a £2million swoop.
Celtic seemingly want to add another left back as competition for Greg Taylor, with Liam Scales yet to really get going at Parkhead.
Jeahze fits the bill given his attack-minded nature, his low asking price and his international status with Iraq.
Jeahze has also been branded as ‘really class’ and ‘the best’ left back in Sweden by teammate Darijan Bojanic.
It’s also worth noting that Celtic have pretty decent history when it comes to players from Sweden or the Swedish market.
Henrik Larsson of course springs to mind but others like Johan Mjallby, Mikael Lustig and current defender Carl Starfelt have impressed too.
Jeahze would hope to follow in their footsteps with a move to Celtic seeming more and more of a possibility after this latest scouting trip.
