Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Emile Smith Rowe and his recent fall down the pecking order at Arsenal.

The midfielder was a key player for the Gunners at the beginning of the season, but the emergence of Gabriel Martinelli has seen Smith Rowe drop into a more rotational role.

Ferdinand was picking his Young Player of the Year for the Premier League, and he says that Smith Rowe can count himself a little unlucky to not be up for this award due to the fact he’s not been playing so much football as of late.

What’s been said?

Ferdinand spoke about the youngster.

“Emile Smith Rowe is unfortunate because he dropped out of the team, if you had voted at that point of the season he would have been up for the award, he was flying, he has double figures, 10 goals and two assists this season, and I’m sure he’ll come good,” Ferdinand said.

Will be a star

Emile Smith Rowe may not be the first name on the teamsheet at Arsenal right now, but make no mistake about it, this young man will be a star.

He’s already proven his credentials at Premier League level, and at the age of just 21, he has so much room to improve.

He’s an England international, and the fact that he’s not starting every single week for the Gunners isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the world for a player at his age. After all, too much pressure on his young shoulders could halt his development.

Arsenal fans should be excited, not worried, about Smith Rowe.
