Liverpool central defender Joe Gomez is unlikely to join Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa in the summer transfer window, according to The Mirror.
The report has claimed that Liverpool legend and Villa manager Gerrard wants to sign Gomez.
Liverpool’s Joe Gomez stance on Aston Villa transfer
The England international defender, who can also operate as a right-back, is struggling for playing time at Liverpool and wants to more games next season and beyond.
However, according to The Mirror, the 24-year-old is unlikely to leave Liverpool for a Villa team who cannot offer him European football next season.
The Express reported in March that Liverpool are willing to sell Gomez for £23 million in the summer transfer window.

Unlikely move to Villa Park
In our opinion, Gomez should hold out for a better move than a switch to Villa from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old has shown over the years what he is capable of, and has proved that he is good enough to play for an elite team.
Now, we know that Villa are a big club, but they do not have an elite team and are unlikely to even challenge for the Europa League places next season.
So, in our view, Gomez should look for a more ambitious club than Villa if he is to leave Liverpool this summer.
