According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenburg, Konrad Laimer is resisting a new contract at RB Leipzig, amid interest from Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, this is good news for Tottenham in their pursuit of the Austria international, who has been compared to N’Golo Kante.

Plettenburg believes RB Leipzig are trying to tie Laimer down to a new contract, with his current terms set to expire in June 2023.

However, the 24-year-old is hesitating, as he can “really imagine” a move to the Premier League.

It comes after Bild claimed that Tottenham are interested in signing Laimer, and Plettenburg’s tweet somewhat backs that up.

The Sky Germany journalist believes two clubs from the current top five are interested in the RB Leipzig No.27, while Manchester United are also keen.

So far this season, Laimer has made 37 appearances in all competitions for RB Leipzig, scoring five goals while also providing six assists.

In our view, Laimer – who RB Leipzig paid around €8m (£7m) for – would become a hero at Spurs if Fabio Paratici can get this deal over the line.

The Salzburg-born maestro is a tireless worker who also possesses quality in possession – in many ways, he is a more refined version of Oliver Skipp.

As well as being likened to Kante, Laimer is also said to admire Steven Gerrard, and adopts an “incredibly aggressive” style in midfield – just like the Liverpool icon.

Antonio Conte has already strengthened his midfield with the signing of Rodrigo Bentancur, and Laimer could be the next addition.

However, he could also be signed to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who might be joining Newcastle.

According to the Mirror, the Magpies are planning a £30m bid for the Denmark international.

Keep an eye on both sagas, as a departure from north London for Hojbjerg could well trigger a bid from Tottenham for Laimer.
