If Frank Lampard had a striker enjoying the kind of form Nathan Broadhead is in right now, the relegation zone may now be little more than a fuzzing dot fading away in Everton’s rearview mirror.
It’s eight goals in his last eight games now for the Sunderland loanee. Nine in his last 11. And two of those came against Shrewsbury Town four days ago, including a dramatic 92nd minute decider. Putting the ‘Good’ in ‘Good Friday’, as far as Sunderland supporters are concerned.
Alex Neil’s Black Cats are making ‘Fergie Time’ winners their calling card right now and, when the Shrews came to turn, it was Broadhead in the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer role.
“He’s a constant threat,” Neil beamed after a result that kept Sunderland in the play-off picture with just a handful of fixtures remaining (The Chronicle). “That’s the best way to describe him.
“Both his goals on Friday were extremely different. His first was a second ball, it dropped, and he hit it as clean as you like.
“And his second goal was a flick header after getting between the defenders, gambling on the ball coming in the box.
“He and Ross (Stewart) are a really good partnership.”
Does Nathan Broadhead have a future at Everton?
On April 5th, Broadhead celebrated his 24th birthday.
If the former Wales U21 international was a couple of years younger, he would surely be returning to Goodison Park in the summer ready to fight for a place in Lampard’s plans.

As things stand, however, Broadhead will soon be entering the final 12 months of his contract. If first-team football remains out of his reach at Everton, then staying at Sunderland – or joining another EFL Cup willing to hand him a starring role – may be the best thing for all parties.

“You never know in football,” Broadhead told the Sunderland Echo when asked about the prospect of a permanent departure from Merseyside in the summer.
“We will see what happens in the future.”

Then again, if Lampard cannot stave off the threat of the club’s first relegation since 1951, maybe Broadhead will have a future in Everton blue after all.
