Gareth Bale’s time at Real Madrid has been mixed, to say the least, and last night saw the Tottenham icon make his first competitive home appearance in over two years.
The Wales international was introduced in the second half at the Santiago Bernabeu against Getafe, Bale’s first Madrid appearance at home in 654 days as the winger replaced Karim Benzema.
With the Spanish media criticising Bale’s attitude in recent months and Los Blancos fans all but turning on the attacker, it is no surprise that the forward was met with a chorus of boos when entering the pitch.
Indeed, Bale’s contract is set to expire this summer, ending a much-needed tenure at Madrid that has seen the former Tottenham star go through the highest highs and the lowest lows.
Although the forward won Madrid four UEFA Champions League titles, with Bale playing a huge role in two of the finals against Atletico Madrid and Liverpool, fans and the club themselves seemingly can’t wait to rid of the attacker.
As one of the highest-paid players in Europe, where Bale heads next is anyone’s guess, yet with a FIFA World Cup play-off on the horizon for Wales, the Welsh star will no doubt want to find a club where he can play regular football to keep fit.
Real Madrid boos highlight Bale’s time in La Liga

Any player who wins a club four Champions League and scores the winners in two of them would be considered a legend for most teams around Europe, yet for Bale at Madrid, this is far from the case.
With pressure on the media and fan expectations unreasonable beyond anything else on the continent, Bale being booed by Madrid fans highlights the attacker’s time in Spain, and shows just how badly the Tottenham legend needs a move this summer.
