Mercifully, the bizarre saga surrounding Abdul Fatal Issahaku and Liverpool has ended after a move to Sporting was confirmed.

A club the size of Liverpool is always going to be involved in bizarre transfer rumours with no semblance of truth to them.

Fans will remember a number of names being strongly linked with Liverpool and then fading into the background.

Issahaku absolutely fits that bill after a strange transfer saga during last summer’s window.

This all started back in May of 2021, with Goal reporting that Liverpool were hijacking Issahaku’s move to Bayer Leverkusen.

Then with Steadfast FC in Ghana, it seemed like Liverpool were positioning themselves to bring Issahaku to the Premier League.

The Liverpool Echo then claimed that Liverpool had no interest in Issahaku at all and couldn’t understand the rumours.

That didn’t stop Steadfast president Haruna Iddrisu claiming that a £1.5million deal with Liverpool had been agreed.

Issahaku was allegedly signing a five-year deal with Liverpool before joining Sporting on loan.

Iddrisu’s claims were refuted by Record in Portugal as they suggested that Issahaku was heading straight to Sporting and Liverpool were nothing to do with the deal.

Finally, we have closure on this rumour because Issahaku has indeed completed his move to Sporting after all.

On Wednesday, Sporting announced the signing of Issahaku on a five-year contract.

Issahaku has taken to Twitter to celebrate his move, claiming a new chapter has been unlocked with his big move to Portugal.

Issahaku will have a €60million (£50million) release clause in his contract and will join up with the Sporting first team this summer.

Maybe Liverpool will keep tabs on Issahaku’s progress at Sporting; they certainly have scouts looking in Portugal having signed Luis Diaz.

For now though, the strange rumours surrounding Issahaku joining Liverpool have been put to bed.
