Quentin Tarantino must have known that there was magic hanging in the air when looking over the cast list for 1994’s cult classic Pulp Fiction.

After all, it’s not often you see the Samuel L Jackson, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, Tim Roth, Harvey Keitel and the inimitable Christopher Walken sharing the same film set.

Jurgen Klopp must be left with a familiar feeling as he watches Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino being put through their paces at the space-age AXA Training Centre.

Is there a better, more fearsome, more versatile frontline in European football right now?

Should Serge Gnabry arrive from Bayern Munich in this summer’s transfer window, even the most ardent Manchester City supporter could be forgiven at glancing over at their North West neighbours with a pang of envy.

According to Goal, Liverpool are keeping a ‘close eye’ on the Germany international, with Bayern Munich no closer to extending a contract that is due to expire in 2023.

Madrid-based publication Defensa Central believe that the Bundesliga champions are ‘refusing’ to meet Gnabry’s £250k-a-week demands.

History may be about to repeat itself at the Allianz Arena, just one year after David Alaba left Bavaria behind following a drawn-out and increasingly bitter dispute over an eye-watering pay rise.

Will Liverpool really sign Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry?

Gnabry, the one-time Arsenal youngster and West Brom loanee, is one of the finest forwards in European football these days. He’s certainly come a long way since falling out of favour with Tony Pulis at the Hawthorns.

Gnabry averages 17 goals a season at Bayern. He’s found the net 20 times in 31 international caps. And he’s also won pretty much everything that’s worth winning in the modern game. Including a trio of Bundesliga titles and the 2020 Champions League.

Furthermore, this is the sort of signing that would have the rest of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals quaking in their sponsored footwear.

Gnabry scored four times in that 7-2 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur in late-2019. He was arguably even better when Bayern tore Chelsea apart at Stamford Bridge a few months after that.

The best forward-line in football?

And, should Liverpool succeed in reuniting Gnabry with former Bayern team-mate Thiago Alcantara, the usually-unruffable Virgil van Dijk might find that those midweek training sessions have just been ramped up a notch.

Remember, back in 2019, when the stat emerged claiming that Van Dijk had not been ‘dribbled past’ in any of his last 64 games in Liverpool colours.

Well, Gnabry certainly made a mockery of that in March 2019. He cut inside the totemic Dutchman before curling a wicked shot into the corner during Germany’s 3-2 win in the Netherlands.

If this is what Liverpool supporters have to look forward too… well let’s just say every defender in the Premier League – including Van Dijk – are in for a tough time.
