Steven Bergwijn has been speaking to Algemeen Dagblad about his situation at Tottenham, and he doesn’t sound too happy.

What’s the story?

Well, the £73,077-a-week man sounds quite frustrated with his lack of opportunities under Antonio Conte.

As quoted by Algemeen Dagblad, Bergwijn said: “I don’t get to play much at the club. I am happy that the national coach has called me up. Everyone wants to play of course. I have to keep my head up and work hard in training. Then we’ll see what happens in the summer.”

Clearly, the Dutchman isn’t happy, but he seems grateful to Louis van Gaal for including him in the Netherlands squad despite his situation at Spurs.

So far this season, the 24-year-old has only made four Premier League starts, and Conte doesn’t seem to be a fan of his.

In 25 appearances across all competitions – most coming from the bench – Bergwijn has scored three goals, while also providing two assists.

Even under José Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo, the former PSV Eindhoven winger has never really got going at Tottenham.

Tottenham should sell Steven Bergwijn

In our view, Spurs should cash in on the Amsterdam-born forward.

Bergwijn is clearly a talented player, but with Conte preferring to use wing backs rather than wide forwards, he has struggled to fit in under the Italian.

Nevertheless, he has often showed his quality for the Netherlands, and at the age of just 24, he should still command a decent fee for the north Londoners.

It would also be good to remove his £73,077-a-week wages from the salary bill, as that could be used on a player who fits Conte’s system better.

In our view, a new right-back is definitely needed, as well as a central defender.

Hopefully, Bergwijn and Tottenham can find a solution before the situation boils over.
