Trent Alexander-Arnold is injured at the moment, and this will give the chance to Joe Gomez to show Liverpool that he is worth more than the £23 million they think he is.

The Athletic have reported today that Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold may not be fit in time for the Premier League game against Manchester City next month.

The England international right-back is suffering from a hamstring injury that he picked up against Arsenal before the international break.

Joe Gomez to get Liverpool chance

The Athletic have reported that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is now likely to continue to play Gomez at right-back.

The 24-year-old can also operate as a centre-back and played well against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup at right-back.

Earlier this month, The Express reported that Liverpool value Gomez at £23 million, with Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and West Ham United interested in securing his services.

It is very unlikely that Gomez will get ahead of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate in the centre-back pecking order anytime soon.

However, Gomez has the chance to show that he can be valuable as a right-back.

Yes, we know that Alexander-Arnold is one of the best right-backs in the Premier League, but, as we are seeing now, he cannot play all the time.

James Milner is not getting any younger.

Gomez may not get ahead of Alexander-Arnold if he does well against Watford, Benfica and Manchester City, then it will make Liverpool seriously consider not to sell him.

Or place a price much higher than £23 million on him.
